Why Repetition Feels Boring to Adults but Safe to Kids

For adults, repeating the same activity can sometimes feel boring or unnecessary. For children, however, repetition is an important part of how they learn and build confidence, especially when learning a new skill in the water.
Practising the same kick, float, breath, or swimming movement repeatedly gives children the opportunity to become familiar with the skill at their own pace. With each repetition, they develop better coordination, body awareness, muscle memory, and confidence in the water.
Repetition also creates a sense of familiarity and security. When a child knows what to expect, they can feel more comfortable and focus on improving the skill rather than worrying about what comes next.
Progress doesn’t always mean doing something new. Sometimes, the biggest improvements come from practising the same skill again and again until it becomes natural.
