The Little Orcas Curriculum: From First Splash to Confident Swimmer
At Little Orcas, we believe in creating transformative learning experiences. Our mission is to equip children with the tools for lifelong success through exceptional swim coaching, all within the safety and convenience of your home pool.
Our curriculum is the roadmap for this journey. It’s thoughtfully designed to guide your child from their very first splash to becoming a confident and skilled swimmer. Our philosophy is simple yet effective - we build a strong foundation of water safety first, then layer on technique in a logical, fun, and holistic environment. This structured pathway doesn’t just build strokes; it builds resilience, discipline, and the confidence to be safe and happy in the water.
Each level is designed as a 3-month progression, and at the end of every quarter, we conduct friendly in-house assessments to celebrate your child’s achievements and ensure they are ready for the next exciting stage. Explore our stages below to find the perfect starting point for your child’s swimming adventure.

What Your Kids Will Learn.
WATER CONFIDENCE
This is the foundational stage where your child's transformative swimming journey begins. Our first priority is to build a positive and trusting relationship with the water. In the safe and familiar environment of your home pool, our instructors focus on creating a joyful experience, allowing your child to explore the water's wonders at their own pace and build a core of confidence that will last a lifetime.
Core Skills & Outcomes
-
Building Water Comfort: Guiding your child from initial hesitation to happily putting their face in the water and achieving full, relaxed submersion.
-
Mastering Breath Control: Developing the essential skill of calmly controlling their breath upon submersion.
-
This prevents water intake and builds the confidence required for learning to exhale underwater.
-
Learning Foundational Safety: Mastering the ability to float independently on their front and back—the most critical self-rescue skills—and learning to recover to a safe position.
-
Developing Basic Propulsion: Introducing the first feelings of movement through water with effective flutter kicks ("Aeroplane Kick") and coordinated paddling.
By the end of this stage, your child will have the confidence to enter the water, move independently to the wall, and feel truly at home in the pool.
